  • replica of a Swedish-owned, Dutch-built 3-masted armed pinnace (warship), brought the first permanent European settlers to the Delaware Vallay in Nov. of 1637, the original "Kalmar Nyckel" made 4 documented round-trip crossings of the Atlantic and was lost in the late 1600s
  • 1986 a group of committed citizens established the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation to design, built and launch this replica at a shipyard adjacent to the original landing site
  • the ship was launched in September 1997 and commissioned in May 1998, today she serves a Delaware's sea-going Ambassador of Good Will, for tourism and education and she has represented Delaware at sailing festivals from Virginia to New York
