  • built 2003-04 at the Fridtjof Nansen shipyard in Wolgast, GER on order of the environmental organisation Greenpeace Germany; significantly financed from the inheritance of the donator Ilse Vormann from Düsseldorf, GER; commissioned in 2004 as replacement of the predecessor ship "Beluga".
  • modeled on Dutch coastal ships with flat hull and low draught, specialised to be used on rivers, shallow waters, close to the shore and the intertidal mudflats with the possebility to fall aground during low tide, fitted with foldaway masts for passing bridges of the rivers.
  • ubiquitous usable on all European inland waters, flexible equipment convenient to an actual mission of the operators with laboratory facilities and/or communicational centre for exhibitions and preesentations, movie screening and press conferences in exchangeable containers.
  • named for the Beluga, a white whale which mainly lives in the Arctic and visits bigger rivers from time to time.
