  • originally built for Lt. MacGregor from Somerset 1884-87 at the Camper and Nicholson shipyard in Gosport, south England, first name was "Amphitrite", rigged as a schooner.
  • changed owners and, therefore, also its name several times, moving to Britain, Sweden, France and Germany, often changed her outward appearance and rigging, she has been a racing yacht, a barkentine and a 3-masted schooner.
  • between 1893 and the early 1920s she participated several yacht races.
  • 1893 purchased by Sir Frederik Willis, London.
  • 1899 purchased by Alfred Henry Littleton, London.
  • 1900 re-chistened "Dolores", new owner became A. Spence Hitchman, Dorset.
  • 1906 new owner Henry Ulick Lascelles, 5th Earl of Harewood, Leeds.
  • 1911 change of the owner, George Hamilton Fletcher, Dorset, renamed her to "Joyfarer".
  • 1914 purchased by Henry Peech, London, who renamed her the "Hinemoa".
  • 1914-19 several overhaul work, fitted with an engine in 1915.
  • 1919 new owner became Lancelot W. Dent, London.
  • 1921 owner Lt. Älla Molgneux Berkeley Gage, Falmouth, renamed the "Amphitrite" in 1922.
  • 1925 fitted with another engine.
  • 1937 owner Lt. Colonel Arthur Jocelyn Gare, 6th Earl of Arran, Cornwall.
  • 1939 owner Lt. Colonel A. G. Arundel Evans, Dartmouth.
  • 1942 given to the British Admirality, during the war 1942-1944 she was used Plymouth, England, as a barrage ballon carier for protection against air attacks removal of her rigging.
  • after the war laid up near Chadder Blancs Yard, Salcombe for a time and used as houseboat 1950-55.
  • 1946 purchased by Geoffrey Blundell, Salcombe.
  • 1947 owner Colonel W. F. Charter, Salcombe, 1947-1950 restoring of the ship at the shipyard Camper & Nicholson in Gosport, she remained un-rigged
  • 1955 new owner Intermar Trading Co. Ltd., Salcombe, conversion into a 3-masted gaff rigged schooner.
  • 1957 owner Clive P. B. Stevenson, Salcombe.
  • 1958 owner Bertil Harding, Sweden.
  • 1964 owner John Lennart Ostermann, Stockholm/San Remo, renamed the "Amphitrite af Stockholm", fitted with two new engines Volvo Penta, converted into a barkentine.
  • 1966 new owner François Spoerry, Mulhouse, renamed the "Amphitrite".
  • 1969 purchased by the Horst Film GmbH & Co. KG, Berlin, 1970-71 general overhaul and preparation for film work, exchange of the engines (Mercedes).
  • 1971 became the "Amphitrite" Schiffahrts KG, Berlin the new owner, used as a film ship between 1971-1972.
  • since 1974, the "Amphitrite" has mainly been carrying young people on adventure voyages through the North and Baltic Seas and the Caribbean, responsibility for this sailing vessel is now borne by the Clipper "Deutsches Jugendwerk zur See" association, converted to a 3-masted gaff schooner again.
  • she usually sails the waters of the Baltic Sea from April to October
  • In Greek mythology, Amphitrite was the spouse of Poseidon, depicted as the queen of the sea seated on a shell chariot pulled by Tritons.
