  • built at the state-owned Spanish shipyard in 1930 as a hydrography research ship
  • used as a training ship by Uruguay's navy since 1971
  • the training voyages bring the vessel to many ports throughout the world and especially in South America, e.g. the Grand Columbus Regatta in 1992
  • she has regularly sailed to European ports since 1989, taking part in the 1989 Sail Hamburg, the 1990 Sail Bremerhaven and was a guest of honour at the Hanse Sail Rostock in 1991
  • on shore, the spirited and musical crew cause a senstation amongst the fascinated visitors - they were awarded the ISTA's Communication-Trophy as the most popular crew at the final meeting of the 1996 Baltic Sail in Copenhagen
  • Captain Francisco P. Miranda (1869-1925) was a well-known naval officer whose special distinction was his research work in Uruguay's waters
