  • 2-masted gaff-rigged schooner, built 1897 on Bornholm as a freighter, it was made point of a high capacity for the cargo, fastness and solid sailing properties.
  • her little draught made a visit of small ports possible, main sailing area was the Baltic Sea, Danish, Finnish, German and Swedish coast, her cargo was granite, cement, wood and coal.
  • the name comes from the North mythology where "Freia" is a goodess of the sea.
  • first skipper became Capt. William Nicolai Bech, continued after being sold in 1904 to CM Schor, several changes of the owner followed.
  • 1912 A. Pepke, Capt. became Hans-Christian Hansen (until 1949).
  • 1914 owner alliance guided by the coal and wood trading company O. Bidstrup.
  • since 1919 she was equipped with an engine, installation of a rudder house.
  • 1932 sold to owner alliance guided by Magnus Bidstrup, installation of a new hot bulb engine (60 hp "Volund").
  • 1939 reduction of the rigging, conversion to a gaff ketch.
  • continued working as a trading ship during World War II.
  • 1949 Hans-Christian Hansen sold his shares to M. Th. Bidstrup, skipper became Josefat Brucz, used for transporting trading goods, 1959 installation of a 2-cyl. Hundested engine (90 hp), after some years of operation as freighter she was unused in the port of Rønne, DK.
  • 1972 sold in very poor condition to the Danish Capt. Jens Lund from Santa Barbara, California, USA who restored the ship until 1978 in his sparetime at Bornholm, fitted to be used for sailing with guests, registered in Panama with the name "Freia Rønne".
  • based in Svendborg, DK she sailed charter voyages with passengers mainly in the Scandinavian waters.
  • after the death of the owner Jens Lund in 1986 she was laid up at the Thurø shipyard and was offered for sale, 1987 sold to Kirsten and David Thomas, 1988 registered in San Loranzo, Honduras with the name "Freia", refurbishment of the equippment.
  • since 1991 registered in Svendborg, DK.
  • since December 2009 she is based at Bornholm again, property of the Tækker Fonden, operated by the Bornholm Maritime Historical Society with an option to buy the ship later, port of operation is Nexø, DK.
