  • built as a 2-masted ship in Norway for whale fishing in the Arctic, first name was "Moder".
  • fish cargo vessel in northern Norway and the Lofoten Islands, when the salt fish trade changed with the invention of refrigeration, "Moder" was used as a general cargo vessel.
  • reduction of her rigging in the 1940s, fitted with an engine.
  • refitted as a barkentine during the 1970s, she was then used as a whale watching and research ship as well as a charter ship for Caribbean voyages.
  • she took part in the 1974 parade of sale in Solent/England as well as in the Tall Ships Race during America's bicentenary celebrations.
  • this ship served as a centre of maritime environmental awareness and an art gallery.
  • Capt. Gerhard Schwisow donated her to Ship Shaped Adventures, an association that will use her as a floating summer camp for kids with terminal illness and kids that have lost their parents or siblings due to war, "Barba Negra" was in very poor condition that time, sunk next to a dock in Savannah Georgia, it is planned to raise her and restore her over a 2 years period.
